The delegation of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) attends GLOBSEC 2024, which is held in Prague, the Czech Republic’s capital. Chairman of the Board Farid Shafiyev addressed the side session on “Forging Closer Ties: Balancing Trade, Development, and Energy Security Relations with EU Partners” held within the framework of the forum on August 31. Highlighting the complex nature of international relations in recent times, Farid Shafiyev said that the impacts of the current geopolitical situation do not pass by the countries of the Caspian region. According to him, in some cases, European policymakers demand one-sided approaches from Azerbaijan and the countries of the Caspian region, thereby taking into account their own perspectives and agendas.
“However, demonstrating a realistic position would be a more accurate approach.
The AIR Center Chairman also touched upon the issues of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, and logistics. Noting that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of alternative energy, F. Shafiyev said that the strategic partnership agreement in the field of green energy development and transmission between the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary will contribute to Europe’s energy security. At the same time, F. Shafiyev pointed out that completely abandoning traditional energy sources would not be the right strategy.
Highlighting the Middle Corridor’s increasing importance against the backdrop of the crises in the directions of the Northern Corridor and the Red Sea, F. Shafiyev noted that Azerbaijan is conducting important work related to the development of this corridor.
“However, it is necessary for other partners to invest in the development of this project.”
It should be noted that the AIR Center became an institutional partner of GLOBSEC 2024. Thus, a joint panel on “COP29 and Green Horizons: Navigating Climate Change” will be co-organized by the AIR Center and GLOBSEC24. Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chief Executive Officer of COP29, Elnur Soltanov, is expected to address the panel on September 1.
To recap, GLOBSEC 2024 is an annual forum that brings together leaders in the field of European foreign and security policy, heads of state, entrepreneurs, as well as representatives of international organizations, think tanks, and academic circles.
